1:43 means 1cm model = 43cm in reality. A 1:43 scale model of a car that measures 4,80 meter in reality measures appr. 11 cm (4.3 inch).
1:18 means 1cm model = 18cm in reality. A 1:18 scale model of a car that measures 4,80 meter in reality measures appr. 27 cm (10.4 inch).
Other scales accordingly. To get an exact idea about the size of the individual models you could check the size of the real car in the Internet and divide it by the scale mentioned.
material: most model cars are made of zinc diecasting with attaching parts of plastic.

Models without this declaration are mounted in a more simnple covering box (mostly board box with viewing window; blister box in some cases). 1:18 scale models are either mounted on a solid base plate in a board box with viewing window or they come in a protective styrofoam block surrounded by a board box (this kind of packeage does not show the model - it´s just a transport and storage protection - all resin models come in such a package).
