The 1965 Chaparral 2, designed and driven by Jim Hall, was a milestone in racing car development. It was the firts pure racing car to feature a fiberglass composite chassis and the first with a semi automatic transmission, the clutch had been replaced with a 3 stage torque convertor developed in secret by GM engineers. The distinctive modular wheels introduced the cross-spoke design which has been widely imitated up to the present day. The Chaparral 2 dominates US sports car racing in 1965, winning eight out of nine USRRC races held that year.
